Our story

This is our story
Jabori Foundation is a Christian organisation founded in 2018 by Beatrice Kamau and Ruth Stevens, who shared a simple yet profound vision: to offer Christ-centred holistic support to families facing the challenges of poverty and disability.
Support that strengthens families, prevents family breakdown and promotes self-sufficiency.
The organisation was initially named The Potter's House Community Based Organisation (CBO) and was started in Njoro, Kenya, an area with high levels of unemployment, poverty, addiction and HIV.
In the early days, work was focused on getting street connected children back home and back into education, while working closely with the caregiver to improve the home environment. However, the impact was limited due to the complex societal and cultural issues families faced. As the organisation developed over the years, the importance of developing a more community-focused model was recognised and as God showed us different needs, He led us to start various community projects to address those needs, alongside our family intervention programmes and Christian outreach.
In 2021 we started our Cycle with Dignity project. A project aimed at educating boys and girls about menstrual health and reducing period poverty by providing reusable sanitary pads to girls. The following year, in 2022, we introduced our biggest project to date, the APT Kenya project, making postural support equipment for children with disabilities using cardboard and paper. Then, in 2025, Grace Grows was launched. A project aiming to reduce childhood malnutrition and promote self-sufficiency through education and practical skills—specifically, the establishment and maintenance of kitchen gardens and the rearing of small livestock.
Seeing the growth God had given, in 2025, the governing Board Members made the decision to register the organisation as a non-governmental organisation (NGO), extending our service area to outside of Njoro. Part of the process of applying to become an NGO included changing the name of the organisation. The Board Members felt that the new name should be a swahili word that clearly reflected the heart of what we do and so, The Potter's House CBO became Jabori Foundation. Jabori is a swahili name meaning 'One who brings comfort to people'
Right now, Jabori Foundation continues to work in the heart of the community providing holistic support that nurtures social, economic, emotional and spiritual growth, equipping families and communities to become self-sufficient and thrive in every aspect of their lives.
